Our Hopes for Expo 2025
Osaka, Kansai, Japan

Burrtec is excited to be part of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, which focuses on "Designing Future Society for Our Lives." For over 15 years, ever since I became the third-generation leader of Burrtec, I've been asking myself: How can we design a future where all life thrives, especially with the global challenges we face?

I've always wondered: "What's the purpose of our business? What's my mission? "As I grappled with these questions, I realized that our long-standing brush technology could offer a way for people and insects to live together.
Traditionally, pest control has relied heavily on chemicals. However, today there's a strong demand for Integrated Pest Management (IPM), which is kinder to both people and the environment. We believe we need a new perspective. Not all insects are harmful to humans. Even insects we find "unpleasant" have a purpose and a place in the ecosystem.

Burrtec's brushes can effectively seal gaps in doors and shutters, separating human and insect living spaces. This allows people and insects to coexist in their own areas without unnecessarily killing bugs. Our participation in the Expo is a crucial chance to re-evaluate our values regarding all forms of life—human, insect, and plant—together with you. I truly believe that with advancements in technology and a change of heart, a richer world where many lives coexist can become a reality.
We've put our strong feelings, which can't be fully conveyed at our Expo booth, into a special website. We hope this site will connect us with people who share our vision and want to create a world where "all life shines."

Insect control measures based on
thorough knowledge of insect behavior

We are working on "IPM" (Integrated Pest Management), which is a friendly way to control bugs. In IPM, it's not just about getting rid of bugs. It's important to understand their habits and what they do in nature's system.
Even ants, which are often called pests around the world, are actually very important for nature's cycle! This time, we talked to an ant expert about the roles bugs, often called pests, play in nature.

Ever since I was a little kid, what interested me most was "bugs." I grew up in Tokyo, where there wasn't much nature around. But I could still find ants, cockroaches, earwigs, millipedes, centipedes, slugs, and earthworms by looking under flower beds, planters, and potted plants around my house. Watching them was a lot of fun when I was little.
When I looked closely and researched them, I learned that these small creatures play a very important role in nature's system. They eat other creatures to keep their numbers from growing too much, break down dead animals and fallen leaves, dig holes to bring oxygen into the soil, and even become food for other creatures.
For example, ants sometimes come into our homes and cause problems. There are over 12,000 kinds of ants known in the world, and about 300 kinds live in Japan alone. Even though they are small, ants are very important in nature's system because there are so many of them. They eat various bugs, and recent studies have shown that they also help a lot with plant pollination.
If ants disappeared, the bugs they used to eat would increase greatly, and it would be harder for vegetables and fruits to grow. Many other problems would also appear. In the future, we can say that the natural environment we need to protect is actually made by these many small creatures. Of course, it's important to protect rare and endangered species, but to make an environment where these valuable creatures can live, these small, common bugs are absolutely essential.
So, doesn't protecting nature also mean protecting these small creatures that live close to us? If even one of these creatures that support nature's system were to disappear, there could be big problems that no one could have imagined.
However, sadly, these creatures are generally disliked. And the tricky thing is, because they are small and many live nearby, they often come into our houses. Even people who know that small bugs are important in nature would probably use bug spray to get rid of them if they got inside. For dangerous bugs like centipedes, which have venom, it might even be unavoidable.
I had thought this way for a long time, but then I learned that BURRTEC has products that use brushes to stop bugs from coming in. When I found this out, I thought it was a wonderful product for people and bugs to live separately and get along. Instead of killing bugs with spray, we can stop them from coming in and live together. I would be happy if even one more person would care about the small bugs living near them. I believe that more people caring will definitely be a good thing for the future of our Earth.

Steps to exhibiting

  • "Driven by the desire to change
how we value life-starting with something
    as simple as a brush."

The philosophy of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai-“Designing Future Society for Our Lives”-resonates deeply with our own vision: a world where humans, nature, and all living things coexist, made possible through our brush technology. Wanting to express this shared concept, we officially launched our project.

  • A Future-Focused Perspective
    Inspired Our Exhibit

Our representative, Suematsu, spoke at “Miracola,” a career program for elementary school students. Together with the children, we explored questions like “What would happen if insects disappeared?” and “How can we express a society of coexistence using brushes?” Their free-spirited ideas and creative insights became valuable inspiration for our exhibit content.

  • Let’s energize the Expo opening
    with the Bartec Family!

Around 30 employees and their families gathered at HQ to celebrate the opening of Expo 2025 Osaka. Although the Blue Impulse flyover was canceled, we shared our Expo story and strengthened our bond by voting with the kids to choose our company mascot.

  • Loaded with ways to tell our story.
Here we go to the Expo!

Incorporating ideas from children, we created a booth where technology meets playfulness.
The result is a uniquely Bartec-style exhibit that conveys both the “fun of insect control” and the “depth of our technology.”

Our Dedication to Bug
Prevention Brushes

    • Listening to Our Customers

We use what we learn from about 21,000 successful projects to make our products better.

By using brushes to seal the gaps in shutters and doors, we can stop bugs from getting into food factories. This has been a big problem for a long time. This amazing bug prevention brush was created when BURRTEC employees visited many different food factories and got ideas from what they saw there.
Since then, BURRTEC has become the top company in Japan for bug prevention brushes. We've built strong connections with major shutter makers and experts. We've delivered our bug prevention brushes to customers all over the country, with about 21,000 successful projects! We keep making our products better based on what our customers tell us, always working to improve quality and find new value in bug prevention brushes.

    • Focusing on Bug Prevention

Some factories have seen a 90% drop in bug invasions! Our gap solutions give you peace of mind.

If there are gaps in shutters or doors, light, smells, and air can leak out. These things attract bugs. People often try to close these gaps with rubber or sponges, but they wear out quickly and get damaged easily.
BURRTEC's bug prevention brushes move flexibly with shutters. They don't get much pressure when the shutters open and close, so they keep preventing bugs for a long time. Also, our brushes are much more durable than rubber or sponges. BURRTEC uses these benefits to suggest the best gap solutions for each customer's factory. In factories where our brushes have been installed, bug invasions have dropped by 90% compared to the year before! That shows how effective they are.

    • Focusing on Solving Problems

Environmentally Friendly Bug Control Based on IPM

We believe that we don't need to use chemicals to kill bugs unless they are actually harming people. Bugs are a part of nature's system, and killing too many of them can hurt the balance of nature. So, when people and bugs live in their own separate spaces, they can get along well, and nature can stay healthy.
BURRTEC offers solutions that are good for the environment and can be used for a long time. This helps both people and the planet.
